Ferrari reveals the interior of its first electric model, Luce. Featuring Jony Ive’s LoveFrom design, E-Ink key technology, and a tactile-focused cabin.
Ferrari has officially unveiled the interior design and advanced interface of its highly anticipated first all-electric sports car, the “Luce.” Unveiled in San Francisco, the cabin is the result of a five-year collaboration with LoveFrom, the creative collective led by former Apple design chief Sir Jony Ive and Marc Newson.
Named after the Italian word for “light,” the Ferrari Luce marks a significant milestone in Maranello’s history. Moving away from the trend of oversized touchscreens, Ferrari and LoveFrom have reimagined the cockpit as a sanctuary of tactile precision, where mechanical engagement meets digital sophistication.
A Masterclass in Tactile Interface
The Luce’s Human-Machine Interface (HMI) focuses on physical interaction to ensure a deeply connected driving experience:
- Layered OLED Displays: Developed in collaboration with Samsung Display, the instrument cluster features two overlapping OLED panels. Three precision-cut openings in the top display create a unique three-dimensional visual depth, blending digital graphics with physical frames.
- Corning® Gorilla® Glass Integration: The cabin extensively uses high-strength glass for the shifter, control panels, and center console, offering unprecedented optical clarity and scratch resistance.
- Mechanical Feedback: Every dial, switch, and toggle has been engineered to provide harmonious acoustic and haptic feedback, inspired by both classic Ferraris and aviation controls.
The Ritual of Motion: The E-Ink Key
One of the most innovative features is the Luce’s starting sequence. The car features an automotive-first E-Ink display integrated into a Gorilla Glass key. When docked into the center console, the key undergoes a color-shifting sequence that visually “transfers life” into the vehicle’s systems, illuminating the dashboard and controls in a choreographed light show.
Minimalist Engineering: The Aluminum Steering Wheel
Paying homage to the iconic Nardi wheels of the 1950s, the Luce features a simplified three-spoke steering wheel. Machined from 100% recycled aluminum using advanced CNC technology, it is composed of 19 individual parts and weighs 400 grams less than a standard Ferrari wheel. The exposed metal structure highlights the raw beauty of the materials used throughout the cabin.
